TURF IRRIGATION WATER TESTING
Irrigation water testing can protect your turf and soil health.
Water quality plays a critical role in turf health. High and even moderate saline levels, pH imbalances and contaminants can inhibit growth, reduce moisture availability and impact soil structure. Regular irrigation water testing helps you pinpoint imbalances, so you can take action to protect your turf and soil.

Turnaround time for irrigation water analysis is two business days.
Results are available online, via email or standard mail, with data available in a variety of formats including Excel, PDF or CSV files.
A representative sample is essential for accurate analysis. Consistency in sampling ensures reliable irrigation water test results to help guide effective management decisions.
Follow these basic sampling reminders for the best results:
- Use a clean plastic container – you can order free sampling supplies from AgSource. Do not use glass containers.
- Collect the sample from the pumping station or within the irrigation system. Do not collect water from the side of an irrigation pond – sediment will act as a contaminant. If a system of irrigation wells (ground water) is being used, sample each well separately.
- When collecting the sample, let the water run for two to three minutes before collecting the sample. (This will purge static water from the system.)
- Fill the bottle and eliminate all head space. Be sure the lid is tight so that the samples do not leak during transit. The laboratory needs at least 125 ml (about 4 ounces) of water.
- If possible, collect and ship samples the same day.
